Free Online Version of Wx-Worx Until June 15, 2009

I tried it and saw nothing in it which bowled me over. I guess it's fine for it's intended audience, but I still fail to see how it's any better for meteorological applications than any of the other products/apps out there. As far as the satellite angle, I get better mobile radar from MyCast.

This just seems weird to me... I thought the whole point of the WxWorx system was that you always had data. I don't think anyone would 'choose' that system over others, just that it always had data no matter where you were...

It is... but this is the ONLINE version, which means you have to have a connection to the internet, such as a wireless data card, WiFi, etc.

In such a case, I'd much rather just stick with GRLevel2 or 3 rather than use this cartoon radar that they have yet to improve upon in over 6 years.

And besides, the coverage of wireless data has come a long way since 2003/04; thus the need for the satellite connection is quickly fading.

In my honest opinion i think for the price Weather Defender is better based on the fact of both being internet tied, Ill stick with GRLevel 3, GR2AE

Weather Defender is equally as terrible was WxWorx Online. Both are useless and graphic intense and only designed to look pretty.

I've always thought it would be nice if WxWorx would allow their current subscribers to access the data stream online (included in the subscription price, IE no extra charge). Mainly so we could get the benefits of the lightning data when at home - without having to bring the receiver/antenna in from the car.

Of course this new product doesn't offer that, so it seems fairly pointless. As others have said, if you've got internet, there are better data options available. The only advantage of getting WxWorx is that you never have radar outages on a chase (and for that I think it is worth it).

As a WxWorx radio owner, I agree it would be nice to get access to lightning data online if your paying for the data package that gets access to that data. I just recently tried the online software, and with the restrictions I shortly un-installed it too. Now please excuse the quick side note... While I do use WxWorx receiver as a backup, I have had problems while chasing (radar being offset by tens of miles, data unavailable despite good link). WxWorx, may want to think of trying to do some sorta serious upgrade (like polygon warning, include radial velocity info some how, better resolution) or the amount of my chase budget that I spend on this service will continue to dwindle.

Because of recent thread, I figured it would be good to add a reply here too.

I too un-installed xm online, and recently noticed (because of other thread) that wxworx stopped working correctly. After reinstalling, all is well. However, my recommendation would be to not install this software, if you already have threatnet on your computer. If you too have un-installed xm online, and have threatnet for your radio already installed, go check and make sure it's still working correctly. Even though I was able to get Threatnet to come up, after unistalling WXonline, the radar would still not work.

Just for those who don't know already... you can get lightning on GR!

Get the $10/mo. plan from AllisonHouse:

As soon as I found out about the lightning feed, my perceived "need" for ThreatNet evaporated.
