Favorite Tornado Documentary

Tornado Video Classics 1 and 2 are my favorite. Wore out those VHS tapes as a kid from watching them so many times. NOVA comes in as a good second.

I still have The Enemy Wind on VHS. A very good documentary focusing on the 1991 chase season. I also second the TLC Tornado series. Too bad none of the Discovery-network cable channels are doing anything remotely like that now.

Storm Chasers was an overblown (lame pun alert) reality show that couldn't seem to show video of the actual tornado for more than a few seconds at a time if there was a shot of Reed yelling and pointing at it.

*Meant to edit my original post, not quote myself. Still getting used to the new format, now can't find the "delete" button.

My favorite has to be a little-known TV special from KARE 11 in Minnesota called "Unheard Sirens." It focuses on the tornado that tore through Brooklyn Park, MN on July 18, 1986. It was what made me obsessed with tornadoes, and spawned my passion for weather.

This is a tough one for me because there are so many documentaries out there that I love. I would have to go with the entire TVC series. I still have my VHS collection that I watch every chance I get.

Tornado Video Classics Vol. II. I learned more about chasing in my first years from the portion in the first appendix where they followed Jon Davies and Dave Keller as they approached a storm in 1993 from different directions and eventually meet up. Remember when a chaser convergence was just two chasers? You can watch the whole thing here and the portion i reference starting at 53:50

Twister - Fury on the Plains brings back memories. I had this and another tornado documentary I can't remember. I already loved tornadoes before I got these videos but they got me really into it. I am going to watch tornado video classics now, it looks awesome!

The only thing I didn't like about twister fury on the plains is it showing the video with the news crew taking shelter under an over pass. I hope no one really tries to take shelter under over passes anymore.
