August 21, 2019 Mark Puleo, AccuWeather: "In a heart-stopping video that made its way around the Internet last week, it appeared that a man came within inches of a lightning-strike catastrophe outside the Academy for Technology and Academics in Horry County, South Carolina. The now-viral video shows Romulus McNeill recoil and run after a bolt of lightning flashes frighteningly close to him.... However, AccuWeather Meteorologist Jesse Ferrell said what was seen in the video was not a direct lightning strike."
This news story, originally from Accuweather, uses a blog post from Stormtrack's own @Dan Robinson to explain. It also credits Dan as possibly being 1 of only 2 people to have photographed an upward leader.
Source: What was really going on in the viral video that appeared to show a man being struck by lightning?
