• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Since i dont have the money to actually buy one (i also think building one myself would be kinda fun) how would i go about building one from scratch?

*Mods, feel free to move this if it isnt in the right spot:D*

A lot of it depends on whether or not you're willing to drill holes in your car. There are several mounts that have been made that will work in a variety of vehicles. Generally, it will depend on whether you have a front console and how your dash is shaped. There have been tons of threads on this topic. Try doing a search and see what you come up with.

I have built two mounts that I've used. The first was using PVC pipes and constructing a plexiglass platform that I just but a suction cup mount on. It worked fine, but kinda got in my way, comfort-wise.

The second one is also made out of PVC and very loosely secures against my dash and front console. I used a Bogen super clamp on it to provide the base for the tripod head. It's not incredibly stable, but gets the job done. I'd like to make something else before I start chasing this season.

Both of these setups cost less than $20 to make.

Another recommendation for StickyPod

Start with ordering some Stickypod suction cups, there only $9 each, just be sure to use a min. of three (per manufacturer's recommendation). From there, simple sheet metal, plastic, or other base and some threaded hardware should do it.

Not for DIY but...

For smaller cameras this is awesome. I have one I recently bought and I must say I am unsure how I have got by without it for so many years. Highly recommended.

I'm going to assume that you can't really pan a camera with that. I'd be sold on this thing if I can just pan the camera. 95% of my video is shot in the car, so I need to be able to move the view.

I already own the suction cup from a previous mount I made, so I need is the Bogen double ball joint.
