I have heard of it, but cant recall ever seeing it, until now. Snow is on the ground (well, snow pellets), lightning and thunder in the air. I went out earlier to snap some photos and thought I seen some lightning, but blew it off because I just got up. I went in to grab my mom because I figured she may be interested. She then said she saw lightning. I asked if she was serious. Then I heard the thunder. A few more minutes go by and I actually seen the bolts then heard the thunder. A short time later we go home, I grab the zs3 for some HD video and start shooting. About 2 minutes go by and I realize I left the macro mode on. No wonder the thing was acting goofy. So I stop the clip, change the mode and start shooting again, getting what I think is good footage, thinking I am close to getting a bolt on video, then the battery gives out. Time to come in. A short time later, snow pellets come in, along with more thunder and lightning.

I suspect this is a weak shelf cloud?

There is about an inch of slush on the ground right now in the matter of perhaps 30 minutes...

Well I was going up.... in Broomfield Co. there was a spring snow storm. We got about 10 inches or so. But what I remember the most was that it was snowing really hard and there was Blue Lightning... at least it looked blue because of the snow.... The was no thunder because the snow would muffle it out. I was about 13 I think so it would have been about 87,88,89. It was one of the first things that hooked me on weather. Just thought i would share
