Data card for Verizon

I loathe USB modems, they are cheap and Ive seen multiple people break them multiple times, but since they can be easily mounted to the laptop itself via a usb extension cord as opposed to having them stick out the side, I will probably go that route.

Do you prefer PCI wireless cards instead? I don't know much about them are they hard to install and would they work with a prepaid account or do I have to go the USB card route?

I just received my Verizon USB760 that I purchased off of Ebay and I'm holding off a little bit to activate it (maybe mid-March). I'm kind of concerned about the 5GB limit since I'll be streaming this season, and if it is an active spring I could be pushing the cap pretty quickly. Paying $35 for the card and getting a month to month plan was just too good to pass up though for up front costs. I'm just hoping that 5GB takes a little longer to get to than what I think it might.

Sean are you going to buy an antenna or do you think the USB card will be enough? I'm also going to buy the USB 760 off ebay, its $100 cheaper on there then at Wal-Mart. I found some antenna boosters on there as well just don't know how much they help.

You should do a search on the forums regarding cellular amplifiers and antennas . They work !!!

At least go with the maximum signal antenna since they cover 700mhz to 2500mhz. Or you could go the route I went and get the Maximim Signal by SCT Wireless Amplifier which comes with everything you need to be up and running in places other can only dream of getting a signal. I have now succesfully connected 6 phones all at once and 2 data cards and all 8 cellular devices didn't even suffer any signal loss over the wireless. And the testing has always been done in spots where we have no signal at all with just the phones and/or data cards.

Get this, you won't be sorry!!!

I'm going to be doing the Verizon prepaid thing this year. What are the best prepaid USB modems (I think they are currently offering only 2)? Adam touched on something that is a concern to me, and that is the ability to stay connected at 3g speeds (with the 4g modems) in non-4g areas. Has anyone learned anything more about that?

Go through Millenicom . You are month to month with them . They are giving away cards right now , no taxes , 20 gb per month instead of 5GB and same coverage

I have read the thread several times. Thanks guys. I have plenty of questions for whoever answers the phone tomorrow at Millenicom!

That plan comes with a Novatel U760. Is that a good device? Do you sell antennas for it?

I too jumped on the Millenicom bandwagon last week. I have been looking to get broadband for sometime now and found this to be the best option by far. 20GB cap for 59.99, plus a free device. A representative from Millenicom told me that the $59.99 plan uses the Verizon footprint. I am very pleased with the purchase so far.

The USB760 is the best EVDO device out right now. Yes all our antennas and amplifiers work with the USB760 . If using a direct connect amplifier and or an antenna , you just need the adapter cable for the device which we sell . If going with the wireless amplifier no cable is required.
