Congratulations to Reed Timmer and Joel Taylor for their (lead story) appearence on the Today this morning. Too bad you didn't have a longer segment.

anyone upload the segment ? If I had known it was going to be on I would have grabed it

In case you've been living in a cave Reed and Joel are all over the news.

I'm sure people have mixed feelings about how close they got, but that close encounter on Friday is truly one of a kind video. I've never seen anything like it.

Anyone notice in that video how just before the second tree got uprooted, it was literally "Flattened" by what appeared to be a strong down-burst just prior to the "main" tornadic winds? definately some of the craziest, one of a kind video I have ever seen.

I just wonder how it looks in HD!!! I really don't think we've seen anything yet. I honestly think this is the best tornado video i've ever seen. Amazing weekend, you deserve it!

I noticed that also, just as the tornado was about maybe 5 - 10 yards away from the tree, which is most likely the reason why the tornado remained as narrow and weak as it did :)

Any reasonable downdraft, naturally slows down, the momentum of the tornadoes updraft :)

We're thinking the tree may have just been blown over horizontally, rather than a downdraft...but it's tough to tell.

If it was a downdraft, it could have been a result of the intense updraft within the tornadic circulation.

Hopefully this video can be used for research purposes.

Reed,

Did you ever determine what the debris was in the video? Somebody said, "Oh no, those are structures." It sure looked like man-made debris, but where was it coming from?

Also, did any debris make a loop or partial loop around the tornado before being ejected or did it all shoot straight out on a tangent?

We think it may have hit a barn before crossing the road and the debris just got stuck in the circulation. It seemed to stay in there for a very long time, but we never saw anything else get hit. In the HD version we can follow a piece of debris as it goes around the tornado at least 4 times.

high point on their video:
seeing the tree getting schredded

funniest point:
"close the door" as they are backing away

ahh guys a lil close no? I never thought of backing away from something like that....brilliant idea....gutsy video and he was actually quite calm given the circumstances;)

gonna be hard to top this one guys, and I dont think I want to either!
