Cash For Clunkers Program

Let me also say that I don't get why there are so many people complaining about this program. For once, the government is spending money which the vast majority of American's can take full advantage of.
Except that many Americans right now just can't up and buy a car even with a rebate.

Also the as it has been pointed out....why is the tax dollar paying for something that should be handled under private business.

And yes, it's a big part politics for this administration.

Just had a local news segment on this issue. 40% increase in traffic in the local dealers and a lot of people purchasing cars... The dealers are suffering form the original fallout from the manufacturer's issues and this seems like a successful "keep them afloat" kind of deal from what I've seen thus far.

The political garbage is really starting to flow on here... Let's stop it before it gets worse ad the thread gets deleted, OK?

"If I go in as a dealer and submit a transaction, then...." Boy GB is some piece o' work. Yeah, then for some strange reason the website starts to get all legalistic about fraud and stuff. Good on them....

I just got on the site and it's just fine. No Trojans downloaded to steal my sister or firstborn or 'nuthin. Sheesh.

That video is funny, and I wonder when we'll see the next show with them dumping their own personal financial online accounts.... probably not.

I haven't read a boilerplate agreement in a long time, but the wording of this cars.gov one seems pretty extreme. Pretty soon they will be able to condense them to one sentence... a picture of Daryl Hammond on SNL captioned with: "I... am... bulletproof".

Looks like you can now order a vehicle and still get the rebate. This is great news. I was trying to find a Jeep Patriot with the features I wanted, and nobody had it, and then when I got back from vacation the Patriot sold out nationwide, so I had nothing at all to choose from. From the government website:

In response to overwhelming interest in the CARS program, NHTSA has clarified that consumers who want to purchase new vehicles not yet on dealer lots can still be eligible for the CARS program. Dealers and consumers who have reached a valid purchase and sale agreement on a vehicle already in the production pipeline will be able to work with the manufacturer to receive the documentation needed to qualify for the program.
