Canon Powershot S5IS

My wife's canon has stopped working properly. The display shows all menus fine. No image is displayed. It takes pictures, but they are just black.

I have tried the reset in the menu. Is there a hardware reset? Is this camera salvageable?

Charles - have you tried removing the small battery within the AA compartment? I have a S3is and it is labeled "CR1220" right by the 2nd battery from the front. You may want to try removing this, and reinstalling it after a minute. Similar to a DSLR, I have heard this can sometimes reset the camera.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried that and it didn't fix the problem. Nice try though.

I know this is like a month old but ya might try this if you havent fixed it
Probably a stuck shudder. Pretty common i guess with the s1-is s2-is s5is
