• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Canon 5D

Both the 5d and the 5d mk2 are excellent cameras. I am currently shooting with the mk2. For landscape and storm chasing photography, it's hard to beat. The high iso performance is amazing. Even at 1600 ISO, their is very little noise. It also has Live View, which is great for locking down your focus and composing your shot on the fly. It is not fully weather sealed like the 1ds, but does have several seals that help. Add to all of this the ability to shoot 1080p video, and you have a winner. :)

Biggest downside is that you need good quality glass, or your images will be pretty soft around the corners. On a crop camera (30d, etc), you won't really notice this, but on a full frame it is really apparent. I shoot mosly with primes, so it's not much of an issue for me.

Full frame sensor...HD video capabilities, hell yeah...if you can afford it.

The original 5D, sometimes referred to as 5D classic, is an extremely capable camera. A very high performing full frame body for landscape and portraits. For sports, there are better/faster focusing alternatives in the same price range. The 5D classic can be had for about $1,000 used. If buying used, best to inquire if the mirror fix/recall has been performed. If not, my understanding is that Canon is still honoring it.

If coming from a crop body, ie, rebel and/or xxD series, the 5D will only accept EF mount lenses. EF-S will not work.
