Hi everyone,

I plan on beginning to storm chasing in the summer this year. Next week, I plan on taking my NWS Advanced Storm spotting class next week. So I was wondering, if there was any recommended books you had for new chasers?

Hi, my advice firstly would be to update your personal profile here so we have a name to respond to?

I live in the UK but chase regularly in the USA in the spring storm season. The best way to communicate here is to tell us who you are and everything about yourself first? :)

Regards, Tony

Well, my name is Dylan and I'm a high school student in Iowa. I have loved storms all of my life. What really got me interested in weather was a few years ago an ef0 tornado struck within a mile of my house. Right now after high school, I plan on attending the University of Oklahoma for meteorology.

I have a storm chasing guide that I sell for Kindle that would be beneficial to you (IMO). Even if you don't own a Kindle you can download/install 'Kindle for PC' which is free and allows you to read Kindle books on your PC. Anyhow, a link to my guide is in my signature below...

Thank you everybody who has commented so far. I hope I gather some more comments to get more material I can use to learn.

I know you asked about books but I'd take your Spotting Class, take the SpotterNetwork Exam when you feel you have a handle on what you're seeing and get in that program. You can pick a couple of people whom you know always catch the video and follow their icon. (After 30 years of doing this, I still learn from others.)

Looks at the maps on the day leading up to the successful chase and figure WHY they were WHERE they were. It's kind of like solving a math equation where you know the answer and some of the variables but have to figure out the others. It'll come to you over a time!

Good Luck!
