For perspective, a cropped view across the gorge; instead of shooting the photo from below, people simply hike out on top of nature's bridge.

Also, if you're ever in east-central Iowa, check out an easy hike that's mostly above ground at Maquoketa Caves State Park for free.
Hard to believe this "primordial," moist, fern-covered, geologic feature sits where it does. You can also hike underground with plenty of room.
