Hey Everyone,

Has anybody purchased a Rhode VideoMic (Condensor Mic for DSLR/Smaller Video Cameras) for devices with a camera shoe?

Above my shoe it claims it is not a flaw that the microphone is loose when you tighten it to the actual shoe of the camera. I have a 5D Mark II and the audio is recording properly, but the Mic is loose (but attached by some type of screw) to the camera shoe mount.

They claim it is the shock system, but I am unsure and wanted to see if anybody else noticed this?

I purchased it from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Rode-SVM-Ster...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1278084294&sr=8-2) and don't know if I need to return it or exchange it for a new one.

Thanks,
Christopher Zenzel

Are you saying that the shoe mount is loose, or the microphone is loosely attached to the shoe mount?

I have their VideoMic for my camcorder, an they do incorporate a shock system into the mount. For the VideoMic, there are 8 little "rubber bands" that hold the microphone to the shoe mount. The shoe mount is pretty solidly attached to my camcorder, but when I wiggle the camcorder the microphone will flop around due to the "shock absorbing" system.

Looking at the Amazon picture of the SVM, it has 8 rubber band things for shock absorbing too. So I would say you're mic is fine unless it's he actual shoe mount that's loose.

That's exactly what I am experiencing. Thanks for clarifying it! Just was making sure it was normal that the camera shoe was solid and the mic flopped a bit. I just tested it outside and it is working for recording.

Thanks for clarifying it for me!
