• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

The next major feature implementation by the Stormtrack staff is live storm chasing commentary. We are aware that there is already a market owner on this, Ryan Hall. What we are proposing is a similar activity - a handful of Stormtrack folks performing live coverage of severe weather events, focusing on the chasing aspect.

How this would work: before a given event, a small group of volunteers would be identified. We would ask that people make themselves available for several hours at a time (likely beginning in mid-late afternoon and persisting into the early evening), although more than one person would be actively reporting at a given time. Imagine your typical media wall-to-wall coverage during a major severe weather event where one person is leading while being backed up by one or two others who are monitoring radar, environmental information, and social media for updates on conditions or happenings. This would be a similar thing, except again focusing more on the storm chasing aspect rather than the interests of the general public.

The staff is currently anticipating handling the majority of the load in 2024, as this project is in preliminary testing. We do not expect to cover every severe weather event between the Rockies and Appalachians from March-June. In fact, we may only do one event per week during the most active part of the season, unless the season is particularly active and we have a large roster of potential "on-air talent."

There are legal considerations associated with broadcasting live chasing streams. We have some inside information and permissions to access at least some of these streams and provide them for free, and that's what we plan to rely on for actual chasing streams. Otherwise expect in-depth analysis of current radar, current environment, and, if relevant, nowcasts from short-term/rapidly-updating NWP models such as WoFS.

In an effort to move this project forward, we are seeking information from interested potential participants to provide commentary. If you are interested, please fill out the Google form here. As the main chase season draws near and plans congeal, we will begin to notify those whom we select to participate.

Submitting a completed questionnaire does not guarantee a spot on any particular live session in 2024.

I think this is a great idea. I remind everyone that ST was the original "blow-by-blow" event reporting system and I think it's demise was a big mistake. Glad it's back. My only recommendation is to try and avoid live, field reports by chasers who are committing dangerous "stunts" for publicity. I feel this encourages bad behavior.

Thanks for the good word, Warren. And your recommendation will be duly noted.

I would love to be involved in the chase aspect of this. Still probably need to get a signal booster for my car for better live streaming but I’m super interested.

Feature update
This project has unfortunately hit some snags (including legal issues) and will likely be presented in a substantially suppressed mode for 2024.

With that said, there is a good signal of a potential widespread outbreak next Monday. Therefore, I am looking at launching a commentary for that date. Details to follow.

I will host a commentary event this afternoon on Zoom beginning at 4/5/6 PM MDT/CDT/EDT. It will mostly be a weather briefing around the time of expected robust convection initiation for this event, which looks to be a bit late compared to a lot of springtime events.

The Zoom link is here: Join our Cloud HD Video Meeting. No passcode should be needed, but you will need to have a Zoom account. Share at your own risk - there is a limit to the number of participants.

I've tried watching that Ryan guy, but just couldn't stand the click-batey-ness & stupid sound effects in the background .lol.

Sounds like a nice idea for ST to do something similar (& hopefully "better"), hope the various 'issues' can be worked out. Maybe by fall for hurricane season? or next spring for the start of sever season.

I'd certainly watch when I could...if its streamed on YouTube.

I realise I didn't ask how the initial stream went Jeff? Hope it's something that can be introduced again going forwards.
