• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Alltel Mobil Access data cable for E815 phone

I felt this was potentially enough of a concern in itself that it merits a separate thread from the one that already exists on Alltel.

A couple weekends ago, on a chase in Nebraska, my Motorola E815 died on me just as we were closing in on the storms. Turns out that it wasn't receiving a charge from the car charger, due to the access port for the charger on the side of my data cable plug having somehow got munched up inside.

Fine. I figured I'd simply go to Comp USA or Best Buy and purchase a replacement cable. No such luck--they don't carry them. So I headed to the Alltel store only to discover that THEY don't carry them either! In order to get a replacement cable from them, I'd have had to purchase a whole brand-new Mobil Access kit, including software I don't need, for around $70!

Ultimately, after further running around, I did manage to locate the cable at Motorola's website and shelled out thirty-some bucks for a new one. I'm sure I could have gotten it cheaper on Ebay, but by that time I just wanted to get the darn thing taken care of and out of the way.

All that to say: Those of you who are using the Motorola E815 to connect with Alltel Mobil Access, be advised that the port on the side of the data cable for your cell phone is not bullet proof. And in order to replace it, you will have to go directly to Motorola or purchase it through Ebay. Alltel does not stock that cable as a replacement part. Ironically, they do supply the USB cable for the Razor phones. Why they don't do the same for the E815 is a mystery to me.

What?! Really?

I know the E815 has Bluetooth, but I was told it wouldn't link my phone with my laptop for Mobil Access and that I needed to have the data cable.

I did in fact try to connect via Bluetooth anyway, just to make sure, but I didn't have any luck. The only Bluetooth device my E815 works with that I'm aware of is the wireless earpiece for hands-free conversation.

What are you doing that I'm not doing?

Are you using the Motorola Phone Tools software? I have a Motorola E815 and did not have any trouble at all connecting with Blue Tooth. Just use the BT option instead of the cable option after starting the MPT software. The connection is only 115.2 Kbps which is a little slower than what you get with a cable, but it works. (for me anyway)

Rob, that was worth its weight in gold! I had no idea. When I bought my E815 at Radio Shack, they told me I could link to my laptop with Bluetooth, but the rep at Alltel told me that was incorrect and I needed the data cable. That was a real disappointment, as I'm not crazy about all that spaghetti hanging off my laptop. So thank you! You've just made my life a little easier. I bought the Phone Tools download and am writing this message via my new Bluetooth hookup. :)
