I've had Allstate full coverage on my vehicles the last 5 years with 0 accident claims. About 3 years ago I filed a hail claim and they made good, and paid the body shop directly. I've sat on the 2012 hail damage but took some considerable damage in OKC on May 31. So, I'm planning to file another claim.

My question is, will Allstate pay a check to cover damages to the insured (no lien holder) and let the insured fix it or not? I would like to just get the hood and side and door panels fixed on the one side, and leave the roof alone and maybe let a few other dings go un-repaired and pocket what may be left over. But I can understand Allstate would not want to run the risk of paying for the same roof damage in a potential future hail claim, so I'm a little unsure how they try and protect themselves from paying multiple claims on the same damage outside of perhaps photo documentation, unless they will only pay shops directly for work performed.

This particular vehicle has had no claims on it FWIW

I'm not certain about Allstate, but when my car got dinged up by hail a few years ago (in downtown Phoenix, no less!) Progressive gave me a check for $4,000 to do with as I wished. They took pictures and notes of the damage.

Well, a few weeks ago a left-turner hit me and managed to total the car. Progressive has settled with me for what I regard as a fair amount for its age and mileage, without deducting anything significant for the still-present hail dings. The hail damage was noted in the adjuster's report; and of course the insurance company has a record of the claim.

I am curious. I know prices vary vehicle to vehicle and driver to driver. How much are you paying for full coverage? about $50 a month right?

My COMP premium for my '11 yukon 4wd is $100/6 months w/ $500 ded. All coverages total to $507/6 months w/ $500 ded on comp and coll. It looks like we will come to an agreement and they will cut a check then to me. I've been busy out of town and will have an adjuster look at it thu or fri once I get back home.
