"The Kania WSR-88 radar loop for the past hour shows a short blast from Mount Augustine. The volcano erupted less then an hour ago, for the first time in several days. The volcano started erupting around Jan 17 or so and there were several similar blasts about a week ago. One of the blasts last week produced a spike of 60 DBZ on the base reflectivity image. Also look for IR satalite imagery of the cold cloud top produced by the blast over the next several hours.

The volcano is on an island in the SW part of the Lower Cook Inlet, about 60 miles SW of Homer."
