Accessory cloud ?

Took this shot facing SW, in front of the storm, as it was passing SE.

The front of it (left) had a lot of movement and really kept my attention for a while.

Any ideas as to the exact type of accessory cloud this is? So far, all I have been able to gather is that it is some sort of cumulus fractus, or more specific, possibly an arcus cloud.

sean, that is a pretty interesting picture...looks like scud hanging around near the updraft base if you want my opinion...youll see alot of that stuff as the storm "breathes" its just water vapor condensing around the storms base...

Hi Sean,

I think you are right about this being an arcus cloud. It definitely looks like an updraft base that has long since occluded and is bowing out along a gust front. I saw similar structure on June 4 in Nebraska where an updraft base bowed out and became a completely detached roll cloud as the parent tower evaporated.
