Mike Wright and I left Hastings at 1:45 pm with an initial target of Burwell, NE(North Central NE). When we arrived in Burwell, there was already a tornado warned storm in southern South Dakota, so after getting some nowcasting advice from Scott Olson, we went further North for our first storm intercept. We saw some ominous lowerings on our way to the storm, but when we actually got to the storm, it weakened. We then bolted south to intercept a tornado warned storm heading for Amelia, NE. We got there just in time to see a large wall cloud and a great attempt of the storm to put a tornado down. Then we bolted south for our third storm intercept. We made it to Burwell and took a gamble to see if we could outrace the beast mini supercell to Taylor, NE. We beat it by a couple of minutes. Saw a diminishing beavers tail, several ominous lowerings with a bunch of differential motion/rotation, chatted quickly with law enforcement, and got back in the van before the rain caught us. This storm also weakened after we got to it. Thank you to Scott Olson for great nowcasting(my xm is shut off until next season). Hopefully my wife will have time to post pictures for me tomorrow. Also saw two deer and a bunch of turkeys.
