Crazy day to say the least... didn't get to see a tornado as the terrain and road pattern isn't the best for 45-50mph moving storms. Here are a few shots.

Rapidly rotating wall cloud just west of Nelsonville before the reported tornado. Damage from Athens city on the east side of town where the Auto Tech took substantial damage. Likely very strong straightline winds as all damage was oriented to the east.

Blog update to come with more photos...

Caught the Tornado South of Nelsonville OH,

Route 691 just north of the intersection with Poston Road.

Caught about 40 seconds of sloppy video before the tornado moved East.
This video was shot at 6:55

Tried chasing it east but following in the path in Ohio means trees across Road. So as we chased down 691 to Poston Road, in the jungle for a stretch, we found trees across the road. So we lost it before it rolled into the plains, and then Athens. The detour around fallen trees caused us to lose it.

Tried to catch the Southern storm that was reported as funnels/tornado by locals in the township where I live. Too late for those other storms as well.

10 miles from home, short chase, nice intercept as ohio intercepts go.

Chip were you on Route 278 south of Nelsonville ? Nice ridge top road there, I chose 691 because it has some nice ridge top as well.

Tom, we were indeed on SR 278. We argued a bit over to take 691 or 278 and decided on the west option. Looks we made the wrong decision. After talking to a few victims, they were stating that it was hard to see till it was right on top of them. For that kind of terrain, a tornado this strong is very difficult to catch. Good video!

Here is my friends video of the wall cloud as it tightened up.

He also took this picture from the backseat as we were moving farther south and east at nearly the same time as the tornado was on the ground... perhaps it is it?

Still in awe how a tornado outbreak can occur in southeast Ohio. It serves as a good reminder that weather will do what it wants and not what climatology says all the time.
