7/23/07 REPORTS: KS / NE

Here's the right mover in Nebraska. It wound up interesting, one storm moved right(west) and one moved left(south). So anyway, here's the stucture on a rather whacky storm/chase.

This is at highway 92 and 30 looking due EAST. It was moving due WEST. It had a long inflow cloud over there in the core on the right/SOUTH.

I had to move a bit further WEST, as it got closer. Again, this is looking EAST, lol. It's really too bad this thing couldn't get a hook because that would have appeared highly strange on radar. It'd look upside down.

Entering the shrivel up process now. Still the view is looking due EAST. My orientation was constantly messed up while chasing this storm. I'd go west and it felt like I was moving east. I had to keep reminding myself and even then it never felt right, sort of like if you were lost in the woods and weren't sure which way you were facing.

Today was a first. I've never chased anything moving straight west and it wasn't even just a storm backbuilding that direction. All the features just spun around 180 with it. It's also too bad this couldn't last into the late evening. I was thinking how rare it would be to have sunlight shining right on the front side of your storm. Sort of like when you see direct sunlight on towers to the east, but this time it would be on the front side of the storm. Maybe next time, another 200-300 chases from now.

( Caught the Tornadic Beast in Shelby NE ) jk guys"
I think we were on the same storm Mike. or you got there earlier, i was westbound on Hwy 92 i passed Shelby NE, and ended up taking some backroads as it looks like the storm was trying to do something, it would of been nice if the C2G was more frequent or the storm could organize into a supercell but oh well a chase is a chase, i ended up just a little further west from the Hwy 92 and 30 exit.. it was so so so exciting to get to see some heavy rain even though it should of been here". I was thinking the same why is the storm moving away from me it should be coming here" .. nothing to much to say

Took my time posting and I know Iowa isn't listed here but just after midnight (which would put it in 07/23/07) my county (Blackhawk) was once again pounded by a severe thunderstorm! The storm produced a 62 mph wind gust at the Waterloo airport knocking down trees and powerlines plus brought some awsome lightning and heavy rain :D "My" county has been hit by a number of severe storms since late June, nothing like having the action in your own back yard! :D
