6/26/10 REPORTS: SD/ND/MN/NE/IA/OH

Might wanna add Ohio to this. Went out on a very very long limb to chase north into West Central Ohio yesterday. I started out in Russells Point, OH and then went onto Route 274 to get a better look. There was lots of moisture(cumulus could barely be seen 5 miles away to the West). But as we sat and watched nothing was quite catching. Some elevated pieces of cumulus would try to tower up then just disintegrate further east. After 45 minutes of waiting there we decided to call it a day(around 5 PM). But as we drove west to get back to I-75, Brandon looked to the south and noticed a large cumulus tower shooting up. We stopped to take a few pictures before going south. We eventually ended up right next to Ohio Caverns after an hour of driving and stopping. We watched it across field into a little valley.

After being on the first tor warned cell sw of Souix Falls,we ended up flying east of the line to prepare for the next strong rotation.Storm went torn warned just south of I-90 in Minn. right around Rushmore. We were north of there 4 miles.Raced south to see some rotation and lost it in the rain/high winds.Strong rotation came back appx. 20 min. later and we had visual of a nice cone on the ground for about 45 seconds as it lifted and then tried to touch down again only to lose sight due to rain/daylight,(Appx touchdown 8:30 cdt).We went on south to Cherokee,Ia to have the line pound us while we took a nap in a parking lot.Walked into the C-store about 5am and the employee, who was a volunteer firefighter told us there was 7.5" of rain in the departments guage.I believe it as 59 south was closed right in town with 3ft of water and manholes overflowing. Total round trip for us was 1452 miles.Probably not the smartest thing, but this could of been the last big bang for the season.Looks like the ridge is about to set in......
