Very nice tornado there. Looked like something from around here...I guess I'd pictured Canada as lots of trees...my bad. So Canada is still using the F scale for ratings? The EF scale is going to be for US ratings only or will it eventually be expanded for all tornadoes?

Southern MB and especially the Red River Valley is flat ag land which used to be praire. Most trees in the area were planted in towns or as shelter belts. The myth also prevails that all of northern MN is trees but the Red River Valley offers some of the best storm viewing in the country as it is flat as anything out there, trees are few, and there is a good frequency of storms with the peak from mid June through early August.

Yesterday was the first of several days with tornado potential in MB, ND, and MN. Perhaps a FCST thread or two is in store. What caught my eye yesterday in northern ND, southeast SK and southwest MB on the SPC mesoanalysis was SBCAPE exceeding 6000 J/kg and 0-3 km CAPE exceeding 250 J/kg. Those are impressive numbers and they are appearing again today.

This was just post on EVC web site. AWCN11 CWWG 232105SUMMARY WEATHER STATEMENT ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 4:05 PM CDTSATURDAY 23 JUNE 2007.A STORM INVESTIGATION TEAM FROM ENVIRONMENT CANADA IN WINNIPEG HASSURVEYED THE AREA AROUND ELIE TO ASSESS TORNADO DAMAGE PATHS ANDINTENSITY RATINGS.THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN 5 KM NORTHWEST OF ELIE AT APPROXIMATELY6:20 PM FRIDAY EVENING. IT TRACKED SOUTHEASTWARD, DISSIPATING 30 TO40 MINUTES LATER ABOUT 1 KM SOUTH OF ELIE. THE PATH WAS ABOUT 6 KMLONG AND 300 METRES WIDE. TORNADO DAMAGE WAS RATED AT F4 IN THE TOWNOF ELIE WHERE SEVERAL HOUSES WERE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THEIRFOUNDATIONS. ACCORDING TO THE FUJITA SCALE, F4 WIND SPEEDS ARE FROM331 TO 417 KM/H.END/MM

Yes, it does remind me of the Pampa, TX tornado in 1995. Very intense circulation. It shows that small tornadoes can be just as intense as the larger ones. TM

With respect to Canada chasing... I'm curious, do you need a passport these days to cross? I checked a couple years ago and I'm pretty sure you just needed your birth certificate.

Technically you can get across with just your license although you may be more likely to get the 10th degree with just that item. I applied for my passpoart back in April and am still waiting. I had to send in the birth certificate along with it, so that isn't handy either. Starting Jan 1, 2008, a passport WILL be required.

Interesting you dont normally hear of Canada getting tornadoes this strong allthough it does happen.

Great video indeed! Now, if we could only edit out the yelling, order-barking videographer, it would have been perfect. I can't stand when people yell and squeal at the top of their lungs when videotaping something.
