6/11/09 NOW: TX/CO

The bizarre saga continues for the Denver area this year, with two supercells (now merged into one and appearing to line out) producing TOR warnings again in the area. Looks like the only game in town there today so far, but the one by Colorado Springs may be picking up a head of steam.

The Abilene area in TX has put up a few early pops that seem messy, but I'll wage a bet that they'll fire up more thoroughly as the day goes on. EDIT: Not so bad from the Fort Worth radar; KDYX may be just a little too close to get an accurate reading.

The east end of the Raton Mesa is still looking decent IMO. SPC/RUC analysis shows capping has developed across central CO and CAPES have dropped, but the CAP has eroded with 1,000 J of CAPE northwest of Boise City. There's a bullseye of moisture convergence and theta-E, and the supercell composite is 4. There's also a nice cu field going up.

I am surprised that no one has commented on the cluster of supercells north and east of brownwood texas. Both have demonstrated classic hook echoes in past radar sequences, with overshooting top hints of 60k plus. Both storms are tornado warned. Both seem to have strong consistent 80 vil cores as well.

Just saying, I would have been a fine day to be chasing in north central texas along the 281 corridor.

PS, that whole complex making a definite right move with no apparent branching off.

A awesome looking cell near Rocky Ford, CO now tornado warned. This one could do it! Tons of chasers are on it so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few reports out of this storm. Looks good on Roger Hill's stream as well.

LE reporting a tornado in Cedar Park TX. Randy Denzer looked to be near it on TVN.

My brother in Wells Branch is reporting calm conditions there. A tornado with debris was sighted not just a few miles from his house.

EDIT: Went just S of his home. His roof just got shellacked by hail and he's experiencing some phenomenal winds as the storm appears to be bowing out.

That tornado-warned supercell by Caddoa CO looks impressive with its rotation. 67.5 knots in the SW section on storm relative velocity. Very large hail estimated too: 4 inch.
