When the ridge sets in, chase Illinois.

Or Colorado, I suppose.

Had another great supercell intercept in eastern Illinois today from near Clinton to Ashmore Illinois where I let the storm go. Storm was pretty elevated early on but dropped like a rock near Arcola where it almost put one down. Dropped a nice wall cloud with good rotation with rapid vertical motion. RFD was kicking up dust next to it as well, but it soon lost it. Think we were lacking just a little bit in the moisture category as it kept wanting to organize but the wall cloud would shear off and it would be elevated all over again.

Not bad... two great supercells in two days and I've only used half a tank of gas.

Even though it basically formed in my backyard, I let the cell that would become the storm of the day (Andrew's) go by for the sake of shoring up on some household obligations. Thinking all was lost, new cells going up to the W would provide incredible opportunity towards sundown from near Stonington IL. More on my BLOG.

(Congrats Andrew, I was hoping either you or Stan were on that storm)

I haven't been able to get out lately due to work but saw this moving away SE of bloomington/normal. Was able to get out and snap a few off before the sun set completely. Went out for the pics ... nothing more. Everything was too far away by the time I was able to go out:(

I was also on the same storm as Andrew and a few others. Stupid road network really made keeping up with the storm very difficult. Here's a few pics, the rest can be seen on my Flickr page.

Wasnt expecting to chase but thought that an area up in central IN had a good chance. Glad I didnt get suckerd south. Was treated to a couple nice mini sups and almost a tornado. The cell above tried really hard for a good bit but was just to cold I think! Too much rain cooled air.
Those purple coolers are absolutely real! I havent seen much of that type of coloring in my career yet. It was awesome got alot more shots of that and some with more purple than that! I have been chasing the past few days so havent had the chance to get to editing and posting yet!
