Tornado Watch just issued for parts of central and southern New England (NY/MA/CT/NH) until 6pm. Appears as though there may be enough directional shear invof warm front/propagating low center for a tornado threat. This area is nicely unstable and sct'd thunderstorms are now moving through the Lower Hudson Valley toward CT. Further west...looks like a wind damage threat mainly with the squall line(s) that are developing.

EDIT: Storm that is forming over Northern Dutchess County (invof Red Hook, NY) has rotation and bears watching as it develops and moves through oragraphic influenced areas.
 
Quick Mesoanalysis shows the storms over Dutchess/Columbia County are heading Northeastward into a very favorable are for supercells and possibly even Siginificant tornadoes. The bullseye area right now is Berkshire County, MA from the Pittsfield, MA area down through Great Barrington.

Storms are strengthening quickly and have decent rotation right from the get-go. Could be interesting.
 
A severe thunderstorm with a nice bow echo is pushing across the Hudson and headed for lower Fairfield County, CT. It looks like the main part of the storm will pass north of my location.
 
That cell just slid to my north. Just some gusty winds, small temperature drop, and lots of pollen. Nice gust front pushing across NJ right now. Shows up very well on radar. I hope those firefighters in the Pine Barrens see that coming.

I still have a shot of seeing that cell that is currently moving over Manhattan. If it can hold up over Long Island Sound.
 
Looks like the worst is by my for this one. The winds picked up big time but not as much as I had expected.

It does look like that the Manhattan cell just might hold it together over the LI Sound. If so, it should hit or go to the south of me (Trumbull).
 
The "Manhattan" cell is now severe warned. Movig NE at 60mph (debateable).

I'm going to head down to the water to see if I can get any views. One of the only places there is visibility.
 
Cell now approaching New Haven had a meso and TVS signature on it over Goldens Bridge, NY. Wind gusts of 60-65mph are now coming in from that area. Wouldn't surprise me to see a downburst or small tornado occurrence report from there later. Meanwhile, bow echo will produce damage over southern CT and another cell over Da Bronx means business. Good Old Summertime (like) severe over NYC. I don't expect the LI Sound to have any influence on these storms. When there is this much dynamics and thermodynamics involved, the convection rarely weakens that much. We'll see.
 
I just watched the Long Island Sound cell from the beach in Darien. Before the rain started I had excellent visbility, didn't see anything. Good gust with the onset of precip, other than that nothing exciting.

Echoes appear to be weakening now.

I think that southern storm moving over I-91, just north of New Haven is where all the action is right now.
 
Watched the "New Haven" cell from downtown New Haven... A pretty nice gust front with a classic whale's mouth region behind it blasted me with dirt and street debris - seemed like it spun up a mini-gustnado right in my street. But the whole thing was over in a minute or two. Pretty pedestrian stuff for the most part - I saw not the slightest hint of cloudbase rotation, and there was very little lightning. So much for the first local tornado watch of the season. Maybe next time...
