A strong bow echo developed overnight and impacted the Tulsa area about 5 a.m. The storm caused widespread power outages and scattered significant damage to buildings, lost roofs, etc. Tulsa and Union public schools, and other smaller districts, are closed today as a result. Damage pictures are already being shown in the local media.

There is quite a bit of extensive damage in and around Tulsa. Southern Hills CC has lost 20% of their large trees. Port of Catoosa has significant damage with roofs off of manufacturing facilities. I saw damage in a residential neighborhood in Coweta where it almost looks like Tornado damage. Will have to wait on survey from NWS I guess. Man do they have their hands full!

I'm not sure but this thread may belong in the reports section.

05/13/10 REPORTS: OK

I have been out in the Tulsa Metro since a bow line pushed through this morning. While expecting damage from reported 80+mph winds moving into the area I found something far different. I back tracked a damage path from the east side of Tulsa into Creek County. Much of the heavy damage was in narrow paths.

It appears to me that a tornado may have been on the NE side of the bow. I believe NWS is listing some of the damage on the Creek County, Tulsa County line as EF2 damage. One two story house was destroyed. I observed collapsed garages and numerous walls knocked down. Some of the tree damage was twisted and not just a blow down. This damage tracked directly through the south part of Tulsa. This would line up with damage at the Port of Catoosa that Von Castor talked about in the discussion line. All I shot today was video so I do not have anything for the post at this point.

EF 2 now confirmed by NWS 1 ese of Oneta which is in the Coweta/Broken Arrow area.
Also EF 0 confirmed at 21st and Lynn Lane.

Major damage in Verdigris, just NE of Tulsa. I observed damage swath in a SW-NE orientation for about 3-4 miles. That puts it in line with Von's damage at the Port of Catoosa. My mother lost her barn and electric pole. Luckily, her house is ok. A couple of houses to her southwest had roofs gone and structural damage. The width of the major damage is only about 50 yards, indicating a tornado. My suspicion is that it was a LEWP that produced the alleged tornado near Verdigris.

I imagine that all of these enhanced areas are actually embedded tornadoes along the leading edge. What I find interesting is that people keep saying 21st and Lynn Lane is in or near Broken Arrow. I grew up about 2 miles for there as the crow flies (near Admiral and 161st) and that was always called east Tulsa. Have I missed something since I moved away from the area?

you are from Fair Oaks.

EF2 tornado confirmed near Sapulpa
EF2 tornado confirmed near Oneta
EF0 near John's home hizzle at 21st/Lynn Ln

Isn't Fair Oaks east of 193rd? :)

What I always found interesting was while most of Rose Dew Addition (my homestead) was in Tulsa, apparently the most northern street (Admiral Blvd) was technically Catoosa since it bordered Admiral Place.

Anyway...I am surprised Inola or the Port/Verdigris area aren't being looked at for tornado damage. A friend of mine said Verdigris got it pretty bad.

Have to admit that after three long case days I was asleep for this one and my 8 year old son woke me up when the sirens went off. As tired as I was I thought are you kidding me? The wife and kids jumped in the closet and I went to take a look at SRV1 from KINX. That was about 5:03AM I think. What I saw there looked like a bow echo event and here in Mid Town there was little wind and I told everyone to get back in bed.

I was very surprised to see the damage today and to see at least two EF2 tracks across Tulsa. But in retrospect that makes a lot of sense as a bow echo event would have had more widespread damage. All in all it caps off three very long days of bust chasing to have two tubes within 15 miles of the house and to have basically slept through it. We need to move 150 miles west so we get to see them coming in the day time.

Bonus question, when is the last time that Tulsa saw a daytime tornado?

I witnessed the whole thing at my house 46th and mingo. I have never seen more simultaneous power flashes at one time than I saw during the storm. I face 41st and Mingo and thats were they were most concentrated. I went to the club to see what damage we had, minimal, however the vet hospital, army surplus and el dorado motors were hit hard. Also worth mention is the Palmer supply building at 7800 East 46th street, ripped half the back of the building which is I beams and metal completly off and carried it roughly 50 yards across 46th and into the side of a warehouse across the street. My best friend lost a majority of his house. He is at hwy 51 and midway road in Wagoner county. His entire shop which was roughly 50X50 was destroyed and slammed into his house, his house lost the entire west roof section. I was there this afternoon/evening and some of the damage done to the brick was major as well. I didnt see any debris which looked like it had been in a rotating manner, it all looked just blown due East however as you go right across midway road you could see some indication of tornado damage where debris was scattered in a circular fashion.

Just got done looking at the radar from the 4:40-5:10 am time frame...looks like it may have been a very small bookend actually and not on the leading edge per say...hard to really tell though. Lucky no one was injured or killed especially with it still being dark! Lets hope for a speedy clean-up and recovery!

If you are counting the city of Tulsa only, I was thinking the '93 East Tulsa/Catoosa tornadoes. However, looking back it might be considered 5/7/2008 (depending on where 1.9WNW of BA is actually) or 2/25/2000 in NE Tulsa.

the Sap nader was a pretty decent couplet on the apex of the bow, right along the intersection with the cold front. Can I post an image on this thread here? The forum rules confuse me.

Hi Folta!

james, if you cant post it here email them to me. ill send you my email addy on facebook. i dont know why after all these years and all the storms i chased and all i have seen this storm has made me really emotional, i think it was the shock of all the power flashes and debris flying thru the air,the sound it all made which was a combination of train, jet, wind sounds and the sirens going off, all this with the electricity out and no clue as to what is taking place just 4 minutes after i came in from resting in a lawn chair out back to getting in bed.
