40 deg F temp change in 75 mi

The most recent cold front is moving SE through Nebraska, and at 1943z we're showing a 40 deg F temp difference from Norfolk to O’Neill. That’s approximately 75 miles by road. If the drop were linear that would be just over ½ degree F change per mile. Brings a new meaning to the phrase “pack your wooliesâ€￾.

Edit: At 2016z the Norfolk temp has dropped 13 deg F. That’s almost ½ deg F change per min.!
 
That's quite a temperature gradient. Pretty painfully obvious why severe weather is starting to break out along the front. The front is forecasted to make it's way into Oklahoma on tomorrow (Wed, 10/5). Hopefully the warmer airmass it must move through doesn't modify it too much.

I'm ready for fall and cooler temperatures.

..IMPRESSIVE TEMPERATURE DROP OCCURRED LAST NIGHT WITH COLD FRONT

AS THE POTENT COLD FRONT BLASTED THROUGH GOODLAND LAST EVENING...
WINDS GUST TO 40 MPH AND VISIBILITY DROPPED TO 5 MILES FROM BLOWING
DIRT. MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN THAT WAS THE TEMPERATURE DROP ACCOMPANYING
THE FRONT. IN A 15 MINUTE PERIOD...TEMPERATURES PLUMMETED AN
ASTOUNDING 26 DEGREES. SIMILAR READINGS OCCURRED AT BURLINGTON
COLORADO AS THE FRONT PASSED THROUGH THERE.
