40 deg F temp change in 75 mi

The most recent cold front is moving SE through Nebraska, and at 1943z we're showing a 40 deg F temp difference from Norfolk to O’Neill. That’s approximately 75 miles by road. If the drop were linear that would be just over ½ degree F change per mile. Brings a new meaning to the phrase “pack your wooliesâ€￾.

Edit: At 2016z the Norfolk temp has dropped 13 deg F. That’s almost ½ deg F change per min.!

That's quite a temperature gradient. Pretty painfully obvious why severe weather is starting to break out along the front. The front is forecasted to make it's way into Oklahoma on tomorrow (Wed, 10/5). Hopefully the warmer airmass it must move through doesn't modify it too much.

I'm ready for fall and cooler temperatures.
