• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

3D video camera launched

Too close for comfort!
"The new model currently only works effectively on subjects that are between one and three metres away, and there’s no zoom"

Remember 3D works best if the camera separation is ~1/30 the distance to the object of interest. So even if you can separate your cameras by 10 feet you need to be ~100 yards from the tornado. I guess that's kinda far for some people these days...

Wow, it's amazing how fast the technology is evolving. I've worked with professional 3D IMAX quality cameras before and there are many real challenges to shooting in 3D.

Scene composition and space around your subject matter is very important and of course, not being able to zoom complicates issues. Shooting 3D video for real is as complicated as shooting a feature film and I can only imagine how nauseating it would be to watch the average storm chasing video in 3D.

Any shaky shots will give you a headache and you won't get the 3D benefit on distant objects.

This is an interesting camera, but realistically... Meh, I wouldn't dash out to buy one.

Of course...I finally upgrade to HD to stay current and here comes 3D!!!

I hate technology I really do. Take me back the days when people weren't spoiled and lazy. I hope 3D chasing is a hard flop because I don't feel like upgrading in another 2 years, not only that but how much processing power are you going to need to work on the video.

My pentium4 is about to explode from handling this years HD video and if it weren't for that I would have no plans to get rid of the current PC I am using but alas I find myself stretching my budget even further just so I can get a new PC for the sole purpose of efficiently editing HD video.
