Dad and I intercepted a cell out Des Moines, NM near Campo, CO and followed it to Kerrick, TX yesterday afternoon. It made several attempts to tighten up and produce a mothership, spit out some very soft hail, but ultimately fell apart. It looked very impressive on radar on the NM side but seemed to struggle as it entered OK and TX Panhandles which I thought was strange considering the air was more moist and unstable in the TX Panhandle where the TOR Watch was in effect until 2300 CDT.

Last minute chase for me on Thursday the 24th. Left Norman about 2:30 pm and headed straight towards Childress then Turkey Texas. Saw the first tornado from a distance then managed to get on the storm just before it dropped this big and very strong tornado northwest of Matador.

We would drop south and see another very large tornado near Roaring Springs that had a very dramatic ropeout amongst the setting sun. A 4th brief tornado touched down on another wall cloud during that rope out for a total of 4 on the day. Full chase recap at Storm Chase Log: Matador Texas Tornadoes - Ben Holcomb
