Had my best chase of what up to now has been a lackluster season for me near Willard, NM today. It did not quite tighten up enough for a tornado, but it tried. And it was a slow-moving, high-contrast supercell. These pictures are from a couple different cycles of the storm:
This storm produced 2-inch hail with hail accumulations of 6 inches, and flash flooding that closed 35 miles of a highway. One of many highways closed today in NM for reasons ranging from flooding to pileups due to dust storms to power lines down across the road to mudslides and hail accumulations. KOB chief meteorologist Eddie Garcia said tonight on the 10 p.m. news that it was his busiest day in ten years. As time permits, I will post a full report on this storm with more pictures and videos.
