I targeted the area near Carrington, North Dakota in the afternoon and storms began to fire ahead of CAM progs, near a warm front. With it being early in the event and no signs of storms in the short-term to the west, I followed these storms up to the Devil's Lake area. The storms were somewhat high-based and never acquired substantial low-level rotation. Realizing I was moving into a more unfavorable environment, it was time to make a decision.
My next move was to drop south to Jamestown and make a last ditch effort to catch a cluster of storms in north-central South Dakota. In the process, I kept changing direction as blips on radar suggested maybe storms were finally going to initiate, but none were taking off...yet... After making a brief stop in Jamestown, I got back into my car and noticed a discrete thunderstorm was rapidly developing near my original target and not long after that, it became tornado-warned. This was all with the clock running as sunset was approaching.
I moved in on the storm near Carrington and it was clearly rotating with a shape-shifting wall cloud. The storm put on a structure show for quite a while and even though it did not produce a tornado, it made the almost busted chase worthwhile.

I have some videos to review later that I will eventually get up, but it's time to get ready for today's chase, which is also centered on the northern Plains...
