This was our first chase day of of several days in the northern Plains. Started the day leaving Colorado City to go north. I was unsure whether or not to head towards RAP or stay around Cheyenne. I decided to head to the better parameters and get in position for the next couple days up there anyways. As we drove through eastern WY, some vigorous updrafts were in progress over the Black Hills. Once inside, with no internet for an hour, the towers finally blossom into a severe storms. We had a couple of views of the tower in the trees, but it wasn't until we got just south of RAP that we got the full glimpse. We stayed with the storm until the base literally evaporated. By this time a big line of storms was rolling SE out of Montana. So I got us a room in Spearfish and went back out to witness the best lightning barrage I've seen probably ever. Multiple CGs in the clean air, and even had a strike about 100 feet away. The structure was incredible as well. What we witnessed was probably an embedded supercell in that line, and it finally gusted out after about 30 minutes.
