A rare hailstorm struck Siberia yesterday. Doing a quick news search didn't come up with anything, but I'm sure an official statement will come out. This seems pretty rare for their standards. It also seems to have caught many people enjoying a swim by surprise!

Had to edit since I messed up. This was in Siberia, not Serbia. Specifically the city of Novosibirsk, which is the largest city in Siberia. It also appears that 2 young children were killed by fallen trees, and another is in a serious condition after the storm exploded in the near 100°F heat.

Everything I've read concurs that powerful hailstorms like this are extremely rare for the region, although I couldn't tell you specifically what about the geography makes it that way.

Wind-driven hail can smart. I'm frankly amazed that it took a few people so long to even try to take cover once the hail started falling; but some people just have to make a big show out of being tough I guess.
