Scheduled speakers include Drs Chuck Doswell and Chris Weiss, Tim Marshall and Roger Edwards. Should be some good presentations on Vortex 2 and for any history buffs - the 1970 Lubbock tornado.

Hmm...I'm off from the 17th through the 20th so I think I'll make a trip down there.

Hmm....right after the Chaser Conference...is this a sign of more fracture in the chaser community? Perhaps just another group trying do do their own thing? I can't keep up these days. I do see Justin Weaver, head MIC at LBB NWS is the register of the site...and likely the host....but I don't see that it's hosted by anyone in particular on the site.

Either way...if it's good and executed well, then hey...it might be a good thing?

I'd say it's basically a geographical thing. Chasing has caught on everywhere in the US, but not everyone wants to travel to the Plains for every event. Other organizations, chasers, enthusiasts have put together their own functions to avoid long travel, basically.

As for the fractured nature of the "chase community", I've long-maintained my stance this is a mythical term. I think "chasing world" better describes what it really is.

EDIT: Apologies for the threadjack, just wanted to post my opinion on what could possibly become a negative turn to the thread.

It's not a "chaser" thing. It's a National Weather Service thing. Not any different than any of the other conferences put on by various National Weather Service offices around the country. It just happens to be of some interest also to storm chasers.

Sounds pretty interesting, and has a great set of speakers. The other conferences are a bit too far away for me, so it's great to see something closer. :D

OK...wasn't sure...that's why I asked. Yeah, I'd probably go to both (looking at the list of presenters so far), but not 100% sure on my attendance to anything in February at the moment.

I'm glad they are having it. Many of the others I want to go to are usually several hundred miles from me. I prob won't be going to the Denver convention so this will be nice too. Plus we usually have the Severe Weather Awareness day at the Science Spectrum around March 1st as well.

Considering the economy and all, I think this conference along w/ TESSA are doable for me. I've thrown my hat in the ring and hope to be at both (weather permitting).

Just a quick note for the students out there, this is a great chance to present some of your research in a professional setting without being responsible for a full conference paper, just an abstract submission is required.

Just a quick reminder for anyone out there considering submitting an abstract for the conference. The abstract deadline is Dec 4.

Also we have added an informal poster session, please specify in your abstract if it is to be considered for a full presentation or poster.

I wish that the Conference could be held on a Friday and Saturday, instead of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. That is way too much work for me to miss. Otherwise, it looks like it will be an excellent conference. I hope that it is well-attended and a success for all involved.
