2009 Fall Foliage tracking and photo thread

It's that time of year again to start posting our photos of the change over in the leaves. We can track the progression of the change too!

I'm contemplating a trip to Flagstaff, and maybe the North Rim of the Grand Gulch, this weekend or next.

Change of the leaves is starting to get in full force here. Just really noticed it today. Within 2 weeks or so, there wont be much, if any green left.

Glad to see you folks posting photos of the trees changing colors. I'd like to contribute some photos to this thread, but I can't. We only had one tree here in all of Southern Arizona and a snowbird backed his RV over it last winter. At least it broke his taillight in the process.

I also couldn't get out this year. I was, however, very blessed in being able to spend a whole week away from my family on a photography safari last year. I visited Rocky Mountain National Park, Vale, Aspen, and Eastern Utah. These shots are to give you an idea of some of the things you can see if you go searching for the golden aspens. Seeing the glory and majesty of the mountains splashed with the splendor of the turning aspens was truly amazing to behold.

Here's a few of my favorites:

Somewhere along the road between Aspen and Grand Junction

Along the same road as the above shot. It's hard to capture in a picture just how amazing this view was.

Vail, along the side of the mountain

Vail golf course. Amazingly, this guy was one of the only ones out playing!

Rocky Mountain Park, just as a storm was coming in.

Waterfall in Rocky Mountain Park. It was actually starting to snow/rain as I was taking this picture.

Maroon Bells, with the sun in my face. Probably my favorite location of the trip. I used my hand as a lens hood to keep the glare from the sun away.

Maroon Bells again, further back down the valley away from the lake. The mountains had recieved a fresh blanket of snow the day before, and this really helped the photos.

Steaming mountain early in the morning. There were quite a few other photographers here on this chilly morning.

Great shots everyone. Can't wait to see more pictures from this year!

I was working a lot of hours last year so I was limited to night shots only.

I made the most of it with some neat long exposures....









Beautiful pictures James, I've never been able to make it to the West in fall.... . Some day soon hopefully that will change.

In Pennsylvania, some of the tree colors are already starting to change even though the maps say "Mid October."

When the trees get more color out here I will post some pictures.

By now I should have already ventured out to deduce whether or not the leaves on the trees were at their prime. However, college has hindered my ability to get out so far. I live close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Buffalo Mountains, Roan Mountains, Smokey Mountains and Appalachian Mountains. I have been to all of these, and all of the sites are beautiful regardless of the color of the foliage.The Parkway is really beautiful around this time of the year.

I plan on getting out in the next week or so, regardless of what college throws at me.

Terence and James... absolutely amazing pictures!! Thanks for sharing here on ST. I plan on a weekend trip either the last weekend of Oct. or first weekend of Nov. to the Ozarks to photograph. I hope to get to the Eureka Springs area. I really hope to get to the Talimena Scenic Drive here in Okla. as well. Then I'll try to figure out how to upload these pics here on ST.

I'm going to stick fairly local. I may go up to NE NM near Capulin volcano to see what I can get. I will also be going to Canadian, TX to the fall festival. Some good photos can be had up that direction too.

James, those are all very nice shots, but that first one is just phenomenal!

I leave for October next Wednesday so hopefully the colors will have returned by then. I don't know why I've never really tried for foliage shots before. I guess I don't do much of anything anymore. Here is one of my very few attempts...

Amazing pictures everyone!

Tings around here seem dull...our peak is a couple weeks away but usually by now there are a few stray trees that show great colors [Im no botanist so I dont know one tree type from another.]

I just spent 4 days camping and everything is just...brown and down. We had a really dry september, and only in recent days have gotten some respectable rain so hopefully things will turn around.

With an arctic blast set to invade this coming weekend after 2 storm systems the coloring may really take off. Hopefully. I want to try out some macro shots this year.
