The mid level lapses were contaminated on those soundings I do believe. Anyway, I was in Pickens County when the Aliceville supercell had 120+ kt gate-to-gate shear. I was in the bears cage when the meso and beaver tail went over my head. We looked at the 00z sounding information and a very shallow stable layer between 900-925mb may have been the saving grace for those folks. Had the low level updraft acceleration been there.....damaging tornadoes likely would have occurred. Streamwise vorticity may have also played a bit of a roll as these storms began to get going as surface winds veered.
