12/26/08 Now: OK, KS, MO, IA, TX

Very thin squall line in the process of moving through the Wichita area. Had a few minutes of heavy rain, no hail and about 35 mph W winds at the peak of it.
Lots of cloud-cloud lightning, but very little CG lightning to speak of (as to be expected with this type of setup).

Cells continue to train through the Wichita area with mostly heavy rain and some cloud-cloud lightning. Just within the last 15 minutes, had a cell come through that had some 40-45 mph winds with it and some BB-pea sized hail as well as torrential rains.

Linear convection really taking form from northeast of ICT to SW OK. Severe Thunderstorm warned storm moving through eastern Major county OK at (according to GR3) 218/95! Warning from OUN said the storm was moving at issue time at 75 mph. Flash flooding might be a concern in some of these areas since it appears the storms are training over the same areas.

When the line came through south Norman about 5am, recieved winds of maybe 30mph, heavy rain and a little bit of slightly larger than pea size hail. What was most interesting was the roaring sound aloft with this. When the gust front came through I could hear the wind increase and stepped out for the show. Surface winds as mentioned never were more than 25-30 mph, but there was a loud roaring sound that persisted for 1-2 minutes, focused just to my east ( I am located just southwest of the Hwy 9/Hwy 77 intersection or about 1/2-3/4 mile SSE of the NWC) Shelf cloud was visible thanks to the lightning, but I saw nothing of a suspicious nature at my location. Things turned out kind of as I expected. Personally, I was never that impressed with the tornado potential but I am surprised there weren't more severe reports...although it's sounds like areas in and near KC may have been hit hard with strong winds.

At 3:19am northeast Wichita received winds of about 35 mph with LOTS of small (1/2") hail. We still have some on the ground at 9am.

Mods, can we add IL to this thread?

The line heading through Illinois has three Tornado Warned areas right now. One area is NE of Peoria , heading toward Pontiac. My brother is on the road near that area heading back to Chicago and reports just cloud cover. There are also Tornado Warned areas (not necessarily cells) just NE and SE of Springfield, IL.
