12/09/08 NOW: LA/MS/AR

I can't get KPOE to update on GR3...surely something I'm doing wrong...
any streams in Alexandria?

I am using KLCH, so far I can find no news feeds for ground truth on the tornado supposedly moving through Alexandria. The cell following the original one into Alexandria is also looking to be of interest.

I guess there was something in there after all.

AT 1125 AM CST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR WAS
TRACKING A TORNADO 29 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MIDWAY...OR ABOUT NEAR
PINEVILLE...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH. DAMAGE HAS ALREADY BEEN
REPORTED WITH THIS TORNADO. TAKE SHELTER NOW!

The public reported a tornado in Alexandria and there is apparently building damage and numerous power lines down.

Edit:
1727 - ALEXANDRIA - TWO TORNADOES ON THE GROUND. REPORTED BY RED CROSS. (LCH)

Looks like two areas of concern now.....one SW of Jena, and the other SE of Pollock...
I have friends in Alexandria...hope they are ok.

Storm looks like it's moved NNE of Alexandria now. There were two couplets on 88D, the westernmost one of which has now pretty much dissolved. The Eastermost couplet looks interesting, with distinct hook and a small WER. (as of 1744 UTC image)

[Edit - also seeing a couplet entering Desha county, Arkansas, approaching McGehee. 1800 UTC]

Anyone looking at the cell that looks to be producing a tornado just southwest of Yazoo City? This one looks nasty with strong rotation.

The supercell in yazoo county mississippi looks strong nws is saying , AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THIS
STORM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG TO VIOLENT TORNADOES. but not reports but looking at radar dont know how there couldnt be one!and its getting dark!!

Well I hope ppl are safe, this storm looked like a monster. And it seemed to turn into one right as weak precip formed all around the cell. It tends to make me think that some upper level forcing has just intercepted the convection at the worst time, just after peak diabatic heating. It seems at that point thats when a ball at the end of the hook echo started to form, an indication of a very significant supercell. Reminds me of some article in bams about radar tags or cloud tags in sig tor events.

At least if this is the case, the storm should disipate from the intesity it is at within the next few hours. Might be interesting to examine over the next few weeks
