Surprised there is no thread on this. CNN is reporting that two tornadoes have occurred in the Flagstaff area, with 7 minor injuries. Severe storms continue to train over the western part of the Flagstaff area with 2 TOR warnings and numerous SVR warnings currently in effect.

Any chasers in this area? I know the terrain is not the greatest.

I too was surprised there isn't a thread on this... I am curious as to how much of the rain is actually reaching the ground and how visible these meso's are....

There are some fairly impressive couplets anywho!

Northern Yavapai county has just had a tornado warning issued it includes the city of Cottonwood and the towns of Clarkdale, Jerome and Page Springs

While the mesocyclone train continues along west of the Flagstaff longitude, it appears an isolated storm well east of the line (currently a number of miles SW of Winslow) appears to be trying to become supercellular. Impressive southerly shear on this with up to 35 kts 0-1 km shear as of latest SPC mesoanalysis. 0-6 km shear is upwards of 70 kts, but SBCAPE is at a bit of a premium as far north as these storms are going: currently 500 - 1000, but a gradient just a little north of I-40. There is some 0-3 km CAPE in the region however, so storms that remain along or south of I-40 will continue to be in a favorable environment for the production of tornadoes.

Looks like there is some organization southwest of Flagstaff now. Looks like things are rotating...radar indicated but there are damage reports from another system northwest of Flagstaff. One report showed between 50 and 100 power poles snapped.

The area around Flagstaff would be very difficult to chase. Mostly mountains, pines and few roads. There are some high spots with views, like near ski slopes or along I-40. However, the areas NE and East of Flagstaff eventually open up into postcard, flat vistas with impressive geological features, like the scenes from old western movies. Any tornado would have a nice background if you could get near it, although it would likely be very brief.

Fox News just showed a brief clip of some substantial damage (near Flagstaff)? Looked like trailers and mobile homes, but a few shots looked like cars were tossed?

This day could rival the "outbreak" of 6/21/72 with 6 confirmed tornados in the state in one day.

1 day with 6
2 days with 4
7days with 3
23 days with 2

*thanks to Tornado History Project for the data
