I'm not hearing a lot out of Springfield - any word on the outcome of the Tornado Emergency? I imagine the damage has to be pretty severe, which might explain why no news?

Maybe we should hold off our criticism until after the WCM is finished saving lives.

I remember the tornado emergency coming out after the second storm produced a tornado in Battlefield (which is on the SW doorstep of Springfield). About five minutes after that report, the only touchdown reported was in the Chesterfield Village area (as per what I recall and also on the SPC tornado report). There has not been any extensive damage reported from that tornado. Springfield got lucky on the first two storms, and the third storm went over the Springfield airport northwest of Springfield.

It also looks like the well-defined couplets we've been seeing all night in SW Missouri are finally disappearing, which is a very good thing. There are some areas of rotation to justify the tornado warnings, but things seem to be winding down in SW Missouri.

KTTS reporting 2 people critically injured from the Marshfield area.

Edit: KTTS has now reported there was a second fatality. I'm not sure where it was, as I caught the tail end of the report, but it was in between Springfield and Marshfield.

Eastern Oklahoma

I have seen two funnels that crossed into Arkansas and moved up into Missoui. We now have a flashflood threat, I have seen over 5 inches here in the Kansas Oklahoma area, near the Arkansas border.

(As long as I remember correctly) No, the PAR's beam is vertical. I think the vertical beam is better for the military application of the phased array radar and we got the panel as was. So dBZs are always lower..it's hard to get used to when looking at the data.

Ah yes, forgot about the vertical polarization. That would explain it. Thanks.

Wow, 12:48 am and I just tuned back into the stream from KTTS and immediately heard two more tornado warnings - dang that's around 8 hours now since all this started. Amazing.

NWS SGF just issued a big blanket tornado warning for 7 counties at once. While that might not be needed since it's 3 in the morning....I think the meteorologists there have done a fine job tonight and have served the citizens in the area very well.

311 AM CST TUE JAN 8 2008

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR...
DOUGLAS COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
EASTERN CHRISTIAN COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
LACLEDE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
OZARK COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
SOUTHEASTERN MILLER COUNTY IN CENTRAL MISSOURI...
WEBSTER COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...
WRIGHT COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI...

I can't possibly imagine what that must be like, this has been going on for almost 11 hours now - everyone must be exhausted beyond belief! Is this some sort of record? I don't think I've seen an event go on quite this long before.
