Craig Maire II
After a short nap late yesterday afternoon a sudden clap of thunder awoke me and after checking radar I decided to head out and see what mother nature had for me. I knew that my area wasn't inder a "risk:" for organized severe weather and no watches or warning were in effect but I still headed about a mile out of town up to where spotters for my town usually sit (the hill). I quickly noticed a nice shelf cloud and saw some flashes of lightning (CG). I decided to shoot some video of this little weather event and thats when I suddenly noticed it, an area of dirt suddenly rose from the ground, it was very concentrated and weakly rotating, a gustnado! After about 30 seconds the gustnado was gone and the storm over took me producing brief heavy rain and 30 to 40 mph wind gusts along with more intermitten lightning, not bad for a chase that was almost totally unexpected and so close to home!
