Saw this SVR warning today from NWS Flagstaff, AZ:
I have long thought that there should be SVR warnings for deep hail accumulation, regardless of size. I have seen many accidents and cars in ditches because of people traveling at interstate speeds and suddenly encountering accumulated hail on the highway. However, past practice has been to only warn when hail reaches a certain size (currently 1 inch in diameter), regardless of accumulation. This warning appears to be based on accumulation, not size. Maybe just something the local office decided to do, or is there a change in the policy?
