PDA = WiFi hotspot

I just found an easy way how to turn your smartphone / PDA / PPC into a wiFi hotspot where you can connect any other Wifi tool, such as your Wifi'd laptop. Tethering without cable nor bluetooth !

and... this even allows you to use a non-cdma/evdo phone over the cdma/evdo network !

BIG news !

you can use a nokia N95 Symbian S60-3 as a live streaming videocam not only on its native GPRS-EDGE network but also on CDMA-EVDO !

So I am going to stream photos and videos directly from my N95 with kyte.tv or alpha.bambuser.com or other videostreaming programs even if there is no GPRS-EDGE-3G available !

as long as there's CDMA.

anyone curous how it works ?

P.S. today is not April 1st.... ( hint-hint ) this is not a joke

yes indeed , Adam, it is the WMWifirouter. and it works. I installed it on my htc TyTN and my TyTN is now a Wifi hotspot and I can connect my N95 to the TyTN's Wifi signal.

in more poetic lines :

once upon a time there was a beautiful princess and she was driving a Rolls Royce that used premium unleaded gas. She was touring rural America and arrived at the Kansas border, and folks told her she better not drive into Kansas because all they had there was diesel and her Rolls Royce would not find any unleaded gas in Kansas and she would get stuck, run out of gas.... But the princess wanted to visit Kansas despite of her car's engine non-compatibility AND she wanted to do so from the comfort of her Rolls-Royce. So what did she do ? Rent a diesel car ? No. Not as comfy as her Rolls. Give up on visiting Kansas ? no. She asked Klipsi for advice. and Klipsi replied : Your Highness, here's how you can enjoy Kansas from within the comfort of your own gas-powered Rolls-Royce . Rent a diesel truck with driver to pull your Rolls Royce.....

The princess' name was Qik Kyte Bambuser . The Rolls-Royce model was a N95. The unleaded gas was EDGE 3G..... The diesel truck had a WM6 engine and was powered by EVDO diesel. The truck driver's name was Alltel Sprint Verizon.

in other words... how to operate a N95 on EVDO-CDMA data in Kansas ?

you need two phones... and connect them.

1. get a Nokia N95 or N93i or any other symbian phone that can run Qi, Kyte, Bambuser and that has WiFi. no GSM plan needed, no SIM card needed !
2. get a second phone with CDMA-EVDO data plan from Alltel ( best coverage in Kansas) or Sprint ( roams with Alltel) or Verizon. You must choose a phone that has Wifi and runs as operating system WM6 (or a recent version of WM5 AKU 3.3 or newer .) and it must have internet sharing on it . *Some providers remove Internet Sharing from their branded devices.
3. go to http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ and install that SUPER software that turns your WM6/5 smartphone into a Wifi hotspot. I just did so on my TyTN WM5 . it works.
4. run WMWifirouter on the EVDO phone. your phone is now connected to the web via CDMA-EVDO and it is also a WiFi hotspot to which you can connect other Wifi devices.
5. run Qik or Kyte or Bambuser on N95 and connect via Wifi to the EVDO phone. Stream live video with the N95 over EVDO.

Bingo !

now.... this is just the theory.. we need to test it....please can you test it and confirm it actually works ?

I tested here in Switzerland but have no CDMA network at all here. I tested with a htc TyTN WM5 data connected over 3G. I installed WMWifirouter. it works. my TyTN is a hotspot. I disconnected the N95's phone and connected the N95 via Wifi to the TyTN hotspot. and sent video. it works. And I dont know why it would not work over EVDO. but it is best to try to make sure. So get a WM6 Wifi smartphone with EVDO plan and internet sharing , install and run WMWifirouter, turn your WM6 phone into a Wifi hotspot, then connect N95 and stream and and tell me if it works.

does this sound weird ? " I need a EVDO data plan for my Nokia N95 "

I tried this for a couple of days on my Mogul. It worked well, but using wifi on the phone kills the battery quickly unless you leave it plugged into a charger or USB cable. Since it's going to have to be plugged in anyway I decided to just stick with the USB connection and removed the WMWifirouter.
