Waterspout report

The image where the "feature" is vertical had me fooled...but closer inspection of the other three images makes me think this was an optical illusion that fooled a laymen. I could always be wrong but it sure looks like a helluva look-a-like when you look at all four images in the sequence.

Unless I'm wrong, this is yet another inaccurate weather story hitting the press.
 
It looks like a simple outflow or frontal passage cloud with a unique combination of parallax and haze. I made a simple animation and attempted to crudely "stabilize" the field of view, as seen here:

Plus on the earlier frames you can see no vertical development to this cloud line. If someone is trying to pass this off as a waterspout, I wonder who it is and what the motives are for propagating erroneous information. As with the "Katrina" pics it may be worth considering whether the pics are stolen, too.

I agree - definitely not a waterspout. I have seen countless waterspouts over lake Ontario, all very thin, narrow, and develop under towering cumulus towers when a cold airmass moves over the warm waters typically from late August through October.
