Use of colors for county watches and warnings?

Why can't there be a set color code for all types of severe weather watches and warnings? I like the color theme that the NWS uses. However, there are so many TV stations across the country who use different colors. Example, one TV station near my area, colors all the counties in a "severe thunderstorm watch" green, when another station uses yellow. Am I just nit picking? I'snt confusing to the average person who just glances at a graphic. I could go on and on with detailed examples. Sorry, if this question may have already been addressed before.

I agree, I get really confused sometimes too. I think that all tv stations should have the same colors, if it was the same as the NWS that would be great, but if its not then it would be a start.

My only complaint is that they sometimes use multiple colors on their marquees that are very close to each other, so sometimes it's difficult to tell what is where. When they have a legend under the marquee showing what the 5-6 different shades signify (because they're alerting you for everything from a tornado to a strong storm), you can't even see the television program you're watching to begin with. I usually just end up turning it to another station.

Shane, what you have posted here at ST also happens here in SWMO. One time we had a station run the watch/warning box (bottom in the corner) during the newscast with their news ticker at the bottom of the screen. Talk about hard to follow!

I vote for NWS colors

I always felt that the NWS is the standard. Kinda like DHS has the standard levels (and colors) for security. I don't see anyone changing those.

It bugged me with the GRLevel...but thankfully someone pointed out that I can change the colors. Another example of RTFM.
