Here is a link to an article I saw on Drudge Report today.

I get pretty annoyed by all the global warming claims these days. Apparently any kind of weather phenomenon is caused by global warming. Floods, droughts, heat, cold, they have all the bases covered. They can't loose. I guess it used to be 70 and partly cloudy every day before global warming kicked in. I think it was Jeff Snyder that said this a while back and I've always liked it (I'm sure I'll butcher it)... "what is average besides the mean of two extremes". Unfortunately that idea failed to register with some people IMO.

if it rains... global warming
if it doesn rain... global warming
if it snows... global warming
if it doesnt snow... global warming
if glaciers advance... global warming
if glaciers retreat... global warming
hurricanes=global warming
tornados=global warming
hail=global warming
clouds=global warming

some people even thought the earthquake and tsunami were caused by global warming.

I mean come on we've had tornadoes, hurricanes, and extreme temps since records began! The increases are normal, if you haven't noticed it seems every year it is the second hottest on record or second wettest etc. That means there was time when it was worse! One decade I can recall as being extreme is the 1930s with the Dust Bowl, record breaking heat waves, and a few killer tornadoes if I remember right. Also 2004 and 2005 were active hurricane seasons, but 2006 was a horrible season. It's all just the nature...it's unpredictable. I agree we are polluting the are and all of that, but honestly the fact there are large cumulous towers outside right now does not mean its Global warming.

it's just a phase. Remember the late 90s? It was El Nino this, The Nino that... In 10-20 years when we see a cooling trend... it'll be global "cooling" causing everything... or whatever the latest "fad" is for the time.

Whenever I see articles like this or hear people blaming particular weather systems' intensities on global warming, the quote by Dr. Grey (or was it Dr. Forbes?) comes to mind... something along the lines of:

'I've found that the extent to which people blame the intensities of individual weather systems on global warming is inversely proportionate to how much they actually know about global warming.'

Nice!:D:D:D:D:D:D
What Global Warming? Still not convinced!

Yeah...the late 1970's were the coming of the new ice age....those winters were brutal....now the winters are warm...and now it's global warming. Does that mean if I hit the Allsups too hard that it's hurricane season? Its all about cycles as Mr. O'Keefe mentions. Thats my take and I am stickin to it like glue. In give or take 40 yrs. when my time is up...I am sure the earth will have gone through many more cycles...and the press will gnaw on it like a beaver and eventually move on to the next tree. Yawn.

Of course you guys are the climate authority on global warming....I would not count every little change as global warming but can realize the many facts about it........

And, everything causes global warming, including walking (as opposed to driving a car): www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article2195538.ece

To the contrary....it exists as do shifts in the cycle which may bring about worries of another ice age. Manmade pollutants have caused atmospheric changes granted, but so have natural things such as volcanoes and water temp. shifts in the oceans. These happen over time and will continue to happen until the renegade asteroid plows into Earth...IT COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW !!

I am always fascinated by the knee-jerk reactions on this list AGAINST the idea of global warming. A lot of you complain that doubters of global warming are ridiculed, but on this list the exact opposite seems to occur over and over again. Just because people draw stupid conclusions linking specific weather events to global warming does not mean that it is not real. In fact, there is no doubt it is real - just look at the temperature data over the last 100 years. The only real debates are over the extent to which it is caused by humans, and whether the trend will continue in the future. Regarding the former, there is strong anecdotal/correlational evidence (not proof, but data trends that are consistent with theories about the effects of greenhouse gasses on climate) that suggests a human contribution to global warming, along with a huge majority of people who have spent their careers studying climatology who think that human actions have contributed to it. Regarding the latter, most forecasts and models predict that it will continue, although some reasonable arguments can be made that the effects of the current trend might lead to a reversal. And finally, remember that even if reversals do occur in some local areas, as they probably will, it is the worldwide temperature trend that is the issue.

Check this out. It's a study about the media and its coverage of climate change. Appropriately, it's called Fire and Ice. It says reporters have been hyping this for over 100 years, and they still can't make up their minds. Here's the link, http://www.businessandmedia.org/specialreports/2006/fireandice/fireandice.asp.

Yes, climate change is real, both global warming and cooling. It's been going on since the Earth became a planet. Personally, the only problem I have is the total dependence of some on computer models to base their dire predictions. The models should only be used as a guidance tool, not a final authority. As we know, ensemble forecasting is a valuable tool, but even the best models have bias issues and should be taken with a grain of salt. Model output should always be balanced with other data to get the big picture, especially when we're talking about trends up to 50 to 100 years in advance.

I also don't think the main cause of climate change is human activity. There are too many other natural causes that don't get enough scrutiny. Sure, we do have a role in climate change, just not the starring role that some want us to accept.
