• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Would someone post a link please to the current tornado count graphic that I have seen on here from time to time? I am curious to see how much ahead of the last few years we are in the tornado count- assuming that we are indeed still above avg. against the last few years....

Thanks!

Based on the number of significant tornadoes EF3 or stronger...2008 is already ahead of the year 2007 by 4 major tornadoes. I think that after a quiet April, things are about to get much more active as we move into the primetime for tornadic supercells. I have a running list of the significant tornadoes at link to my site below.

I like the above link as well. This year is a record year for tornadoes and severe weather, but it is significantly relocated from the traditional areas. Play with the maps a little, and notice where the consentration of severe weather is so far this year. Not where you expect. I mean we're talking a year that has Virginia with more tornadoes than Kansas or Oklahoma (huh, is that right, yup!).

Wow. That's truly amazing. Jesse Bass and I were just talking about this. We've seen bona-fide supercells in states like NC/SC and VA several times this year- not just a rare one time event. Hail has been a big deal in the region this year as well. I have never seen quarter sized hail until Mother's Day with the supercell that went through Wilmington (the hail I saw was near Riegelwood, early on).

What is the cause of this displacement? And, perhaps it is only temporary as we are seeing an increase in typical Plains severe weather as May closes out....

I'd like to re-open this question, and phrase it another way.

Is there any graphic/map that shows the locations of all tornadoes this year from Jan 1 - to now?

Go to the following link and hover over (or click on) TORNADO (this is a follow-up link to what Jason Foster gave earlier): http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/online/monthly/2008_annual_summary.html

Is that the type of locations you're looking for? That page also has links to break down the tornadoes by month or state as well.

According to that site (SPC) IA has seen 164 tornadoes and the only state that has seen more tornadoes is KS. KS is not even that far ahead. Looks like IA was clearly a hot spot this year for tornadoes. In KS the tornado reports are more concentrated while in Iowa they are more spread around the state. Interesting to see Iowa as #2 for tornadoes this year for reports. Or are this confirmed reports? The other site says 41 but I am positive we have had alot more than that.

Thanks for this links.

Those are just the preliminary reports....not taking in account with multiple sitings, same tornado later on, etc. 41 sounds more accurate to me.

Interesting how they have 1980 in there, which looks like a chasers dream [too bad i was born in 82.] Does that year hold the record?
