• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

The best camera (still or video) car mount

I just acquired one of Filmtool's Light-Weight Universal Camera Mount for Cars, and it's amazing.

I took it for a test drive today in my '73 Chevy crew cab 3/4 ton. I tell you the vehicle to give you an idea that the suspension might not be the softest or most advanced.

I tried to shake it...bumpy back roads with potholes, railroad tracks, sharp turns, slamming on the brakes, on the highway...nothin'. Smooth as silk. It's rock solid.

If you want the best camera mount for chasing, then I advise this one.

Unless of course you're gonna strap a Panaflex on the side of your vehicle, then you need something bigger.

Well I would safely presume that if you were going to spend $350 on a car mount that it had better work pretty darn well. I don't know how many chasers would use this as an option, 1) because of the expense and 2) it is a fairly bulky object to have. Congrats on being able to use the fine piece of equipment, but in the end I'll definitely stick to my own rigging or something cheaper that I can enhance on my own for the better.

If you like building things yourself, you can fabricate just about any mount you want out of aluminum material from Home Depot or Lowes. You can buy the metal in the form of bars, L-beams and sheets, and it is easy to cut, drill and shape with basic tools. Camera tripod mounts are standard 1/4" threads, meaning you can easily attach a mounting screw to whatever frame you build. I've used those aluminum bars to make everything from camera mounts to weather instrument brackets.
