Dear Storm Spotters and Chasers:

We already have a few sponsors and vendors signed up for the National Storm Conference on March 13 in Colleyville, TX. However, in order to pay for the event, we need a few more.

Please consider becoming a sponsor or vendor to help us out. You can read what you receive for your contribution at http://www.tessa.org/meeting_sponsorship.html

Our national event has been free and open to the public since it began in 1994. We want to keep it that way.

Naturally, we pay for a portion of the costs by selling TESSA merchandise at the event. This year, we will have a new, sharp-looking black Super Storm Spotter T-shirt for sale (at the conference only).

Last year, we had over 400 storm spotters, storm chasers, weather forecasters, researchers, educators and students in attendance. We expect to meet or exceed that number this year.

As always, in-kind contributions are appreciated as well.

Thank you for your support!

Hi all,

Pasted below is more info on the agenda for TESSA's National Storm Conference on March 13th in Colleyville, TX-----

TESSA NEWS
For Immediate Release: March 3, 2010
Dallas-Ft. Worth super tornado outbreak highlight at annual conference
ARLINGTON, Texas -The Texas Severe Storms Association (TESSA) and the National Weather Service will collaborate for the annual National Storm Conference on Saturday, March 13, in Colleyville, Texas to discuss a new Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) super tornado scenario. The outbreak would be the costliest tornado event in US history.
According to the scenario, the first major tornado will touch down near Forest Hill at 6:00 pm on April 2, 2010 and track northeast as a nearly 2-mile wide, violent-class EF5 tornado (winds over 200 mph) through the University of Texas at Arlington, Cowboys Stadium, Rangers Stadium, American Airlines and DFW Airport. A second and larger tornado will develop in Irving and track trough Carrolton and Frisco. Subsequent tornadoes will track through Addison, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Melissa and Anna.
The scenario is based on a real event that occurred in and near Greensburg, Kansas on May 4, 2007. North Texas planners, engineers, and meteorologists have taken the tornado tracks from that day and superimposed them on top of the DFW Metroplex.
Experts at the conference will discuss the impact the scenario will have on major structures, like Cowboys Stadium, and on citizens in the path of the tornadoes. “We will examine in detail the havoc this storm will cause and what we can do now to mitigate those impacts,” said TESSA chairman Martin Lisius. “The harsh reality is that large, long-track violent tornadoes tracking across the heart of the Metroplex would be the equivalent of Katrina on a tornado scale. This would be a worse case scenario,” he said.
In addition to the DFW super tornado scenario, the conference will present the 6th annual Super Storm Spotter training session, the most advanced spotter training in the nation. North Texas is home to one of the best-trained storm spotter groups in the US.

The National Storm Conference is expected to draw over 400 attendees, including storm spotters, storm chasers, emergency managers, forecasters, and researchers from across the US. The all-day conference is free and open to the public and will begin at 9:00 am at Colleyville Center in Colleyville.

The Texas Severe Storms Association is a 501(c)3 national non-profit organization dedicated to severe weather education. The group was founded in 1993 and is based in Arlington, Texas. Details about the conference can be found at the association’s web site www.tessa.org

A final reminder --- the TESSA conference is this Saturday, March 13!

TESSA's president, Martin Lisius, provides some info:

Saturday's TESSA Conference FAQ's

I have recieved quite a few e-mails this week from folks wanting to know several
things about this week's conference. THe information they ask has been posted
at the tessa.org web site for quite some time, but here are the answers to the
most asked questions:

Where is the agenda? See the full agenda at http://www.tessa.org/agenda.html

How do I register? TESSA's annual event began in 1994, and we have never
required registration since. It's free and open to the public, but do arrive
early as seating is limited.

I'm coming from out of town and want to arrive early enough to get a seat. How
early do I need to arrive? The conference begins at 9:00 am, so shoot for 8:00
am. We have never filled every seat. We had seating for 500 last year and a
crowd of about 425.

Are you serving lunch? Yes, it's BBQ from Colter's for $7. We do this so folks
don't have to leave. If you leave for lunch, you may miss some of the
conference and will have to search for a new parking spot. Colter's is tasty
and you can relax and not be rushed.

If you have any other questions, contact us at [email protected]

See you there!

Martin
